Celebrating 10 years of Game Changers: Nurturing the next generation with Bloom

At the Game Changer Awards, we believe in the immense potential of every child to be a game changer. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary engaging young Western Australians in STEM, we've reflected on how we can further empower the next generation of leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Our Vision for the Future

We asked ourselves: What more can we do to nurture the talents of tomorrow? In response, we have partnered with Bloom to launch the Game Changer Academy.

In the lead up to this November's 10th Game Changer Awards, WAITTA and Bloom will collaborate with 40 schools - our largest cohort yet - to teach design thinking and project-based learning over six weeks.

Premila Jina, Chair of the Game Changer Awards, said the initiative will see students develop an inquiry-based mindset as they create innovative STEM solutions for the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. They will also learn essential pitching skills, further empowering those participating in the State finals of the Game Changer Awards.

"The World Economic Forum highlights problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership as key future skills. Through our program, students will hone these abilities, setting them up for success in an ever-evolving world.
"We are grateful to have found a partner like Bloom, with whom we share values and a common goal: fostering the innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. We believe that grit is crucial for pursuing a career in STEM, and our program is designed to develop this resilience."

Meet Bloom

Bloom is Western Australia's leading Youth Innovation Centre. Over the past decade, Bloom has launched 400+ startup founders, with alumni featured on Shark Tank, Forbes Asia 30 Under 30, The Australian’s Top 100 Innovators, and Westpac Future Leaders.

Bloom is now building an innovation pipeline - with programs designed for everyone from secondary and tertiary students to established startup founders and subject-matter experts.

Expanding Our Reach

This year, we have the highest number of participating schools ever, with strong representation from metropolitan areas. However, we are actively working to increase participation from girls, regional schools, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, children of all abilities, and those from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Preparing the next generation for a rapidly changing world

As technology advances at an unprecedented pace, the jobs of today may not exist in five years. Now more than ever, we need a workforce equipped with innovation skills, an inquiry-based mindset, creativity, and the ability to think outside the box; this is where the Game Changer Awards program comes in.

But we also need entrepreneurs — those willing to take risks, go the extra mile, weather storms, and create new businesses that may never have existed before. Once again, we have partnered with Bloom to provide our winners with the Game Changer Academy.

This five-day program uses project-based learning to teach students how to take their ideas from concept to market. They will learn to identify their customers, market segments, package their ideas into products, and develop go-to-market strategies and sales techniques.

"Our goal is to cultivate a generation of dynamic entrepreneurs by instilling the necessary skills, mindsets, behaviors, and risk appetite from a young age," Premila said of the Game Changer Awards program.

"These children are our future, and we are committed to investing in them. We are deeply grateful for our collaboration with Bloom, an advocate for innovators and entrepreneurs. Together, we deliver significant impact to the WA community."
